A Spotify Dynamic Island for Windows — live playback controls in a sleek floating pill.
Not affiliated with Spotify or Apple. Uses the Spotify Web API.
SpotIsland sits quietly at the top (or bottom) of your screen as a slim floating bar. When you hover over it, it smoothly expands to show your current Spotify track — album art, song name, artist, a progress bar, and playback controls. Move your mouse away and it shrinks back into a small pill. It always stays on top of everything else you have open, so it's there whenever you need it without getting in the way.
To pull your music info from Spotify, SpotIsland connects to Spotify's official developer tools using a free personal key called a Client ID. Getting one takes about 2 minutes — the setup guide below walks you through it step by step. Once connected, SpotIsland checks Spotify every second to keep your track info and progress bar up to date, and it handles staying logged in automatically in the background. No tinkering required after the first setup.
Create a free Spotify Developer App in about 2 minutes.
Visit developer.spotify.com/dashboard and log in with your Spotify account.
You should see a Create App button on the dashboard. If you land on a Documentation or Community page instead, check that the URL ends with /dashboard.
Enter any name, description and website (optional) — for example "Dynamic Island". These are just labels for your own reference.
Under Redirect URIs, add the exact URL below. Then click Add.
Under "Which API/SDKs are you planning to use?", check Web API.
Click Save. On your new app's page, copy the Client ID — a long string of letters and numbers. Paste it into the SpotIsland setup prompt.
Your browser will open a Spotify authorisation page. Click Agree to allow SpotIsland to read your playback and control Spotify on your behalf.
The browser tab will close automatically and SpotIsland will start showing your Spotify playback. You're good to go!
